Short term measurements:
In areas with rapid change where the structure of the ground could change or infrastructure stress rupture could occur, short term measurements using InSAR are recommended. In the figure, a deformation map produced from an 11 days pair of TerraSAR-X scenes is illustrated. A road and a water dam overflow channel are affected by a landslide.
Long term measurements:
The benefit of PSInSAR (Persistent Scatterers InSAR) is detecting slow, long term displacements early enough for remedial work to be possible.
In the example, the subsidence trends were detected 2 years before the infrastructure started to show signs of structural stress.
